I roughed in some flat slabs of color on this page and the next because I think it's needed to clarify the action and sense of place. This is nothing like finished colors would look like, but it shows how I think: each character/location will have a characteristic color palette that helps the reader make connections (for example, the warm musical notes emanating from Lillian's warm home).

  2. Hmm. I hadn't given it much thought, but it could be the same tune the Inventor whistled to himself back on Page 53. Or it could be "The St. Louis Blues," which is the 78 I keep on our hand-cranked Victrola. Or maybe the soundtrack from "The Day the Earth Stood Still"?
